1 RIVERSIDE MUSEUM
Glasgow's waterfront has been graced with a magnificent new home for the collections of
the former Museum of Transport. Its sinuous metallic roof evokes waves, symbolising the

2 NATIONAL MUSEUM OF SCOTLAND
Closed for two years, Edinburgh's leading museum reopened in 2011 after a major recon-
struction that saw its exhibition space extended, and the Grand Gallery restored to its ori-

3 ROBERT BURNS BIRTHPLACE MUSEUM
Located in Burns' home village of Alloway, this new museum showcases an impressive
collection of manuscripts and personal possessions, including the pistols Burns carried

4 CASTLE TERRACE
TV chef Tom Kitchin has added to the success of his Leith restaurant by opening Castle
Terrace in the shadow of Edinburgh Castle. Within a year of opening in 2010 it had

5 SOUTH LOCH NESS TRAIL
The latest addition to Scotland's collection of waymarked hiking trails wends its way for 28
miles along the southern side of Loch Ness, allowing walkers and cyclists to explore this
