The vast majority of the respondents were born and raised in the same place.

come from the local culture and were exposed to it from the early age.
5) Where do you come from?
Results summary.
60% of Chinese respondents came from rural areas, whereas 40% from urban areas.
85% of Czech respondents came from urban areas, and 15% from rural areas. (See
Figure 8.3.)
6) What is your mother tongue?
Results summary.
The mother tongue of all the Chinese respondents was Mandarin. The Czech sample
contained two Slovak respondents.

7) Which languages do you speak?
Results summary.
All of the Chinese respondents spoke both Mandarin and English. Two of them (10%)
also spoke Japanese. In the Czech sample, all of the respondents spoke English, 10
of them (50%) also German, and six also Spanish (30%).
Discussion/conclusion.
The respondents were all exposed to the English language, although there were large
differences between their knowledge.
