Chapter 10. Retouching a Landscape
There was a time not that long ago when I used Camera Raw purely as a necessary part
of the process of opening raw files before I took them into Photoshop for the serious stuff.
That's pretty much how I worked with Lightroom too, other than using it as an expensive
image catalog.
However, I'm now able to do retouching and corrections in Camera Raw that before would
have been challenging, to say the least. This is because of the continual updates and en-
hancements that Adobe releases via Creative Cloud. I'm adapting the same techniques that I
used only in Photoshop and discovering ways I can re-create the same effect using Camera
Raw or Lightroom.
A perfect example is the landscape shot at the start of this chapter, which I took while away
for a short break on the coast in Devon, England, at a friend's cottage. I don't typically pho-
tograph landscapes, but the cottage is near a lake on the grounds of the farm, a beautiful
location that I just had to get a picture of—even if it did mean setting the alarm for 4 a.m. to
catch the sunrise.
Using Camera Raw
Let's take a look at what we can do in Camera Raw to retouch this image.
