10. Although the lighting in the picture is overcast, we still need to add a shadow un-
derneath the rhino. Add a new blank layer to the top of the layer stack, name it
rhino shadow , and lower the opacity of the layer to 20%. Then with a normal soft-
edged brush in the Normal blend mode, paint underneath the rhino an irregular
shape that resembles a shadow. In this example I eventually lowered the opacity of
the layer to 15% ( Figure 8.37 ) .

11. Click the rhino layer and lower the opacity to 90%.
Creating the Dust
To make it look as though the ground was dry, we'll add some dust around the rhino's
hooves.
There are many places online you can download smoke/dust effect brushes, but it's easy to
create one by using a brush included in Photoshop and making a few simple adjustments in
the Brush panel.
