3. Remove the shadows from the model by adding a layer mask and then Command/
Ctrl-clicking the layer mask that we added to the textures group. Go to Select > In-
verse and then to Edit > Fill and choose Black from the Contents menu. Click OK
and then reduce the opacity of the shadows layer to 65%.
Using the World's Simplest Lighting Effect
Our model has highlights on either side of him, so we need to add light sources so that the
highlights make sense.
1. Add a new blank layer, and choose a soft-edged white brush. Click in the center of
the picture, go to Edit > Free Transform, Option/Alt-Shift-click a corner transform
handle, and resize so that it goes way beyond the layer boundary. Press Return/
Enter, and with the Move tool reposition so that just the soft, feathered edge is vis-
ible in the upper-left corner. Then add the same light source in the upper-right
corner by pressing Command/Ctrl-J and repositioning with the Move tool.
