Figure 3.31 shows the background that our model will eventually be composited into. With
the image file open, add a new blank layer to the top of the layer stack and name it horizon
light .

1. Press D on the keyboard to set the foreground and background colors to their de-
fault of black and white. Then press X to swap them around making white the fore-
ground color. Next choose the Gradient tool from the toolbar (G), and click the
gradient ( Figure 3.32 ) to bring up the Gradient Editor. Choose the Foreground to
Transparent gradient by clicking its thumbnail (top row, second from the left).
Click OK.

2. In the options bar at the top of the screen, choose the fourth gradient from the left,
the Reflected gradient. In option/settings make sure that Reverse is unchecked, and
that Dither and Transparency are checked ( Figure 3.33 ).
