This chapter provides an analysis road map for identifying performance problems as they occur. It also describes
several tools and techniques that can be used with it. Even though the presented analysis road map is helpful, it's only
one approach among many. In any case, the most important point is that only a methodical approach to performance
problems leads to a quick and successful identification of the problems. I can't stress this enough.
This chapter describes how to analyze performance problems as they happen. But what can you do if a problem
that occurred in the past is no longer experienced? Can you find out what happened and, as a result, prevent it from
happenning again? Chapter 5 describes how to give answers to these questions by using a repository containing historical
performance statistics.
