SIMULTANEOUS LINEAR ALGEBRAIC EQUATIONS
For three unknowns related by linear algebraic equations, they can be solved
using determinants. Consider the following set of equations:
a x + b y + c z = A,
e x + f y + g z = B,
and
k x + m y + n z = C,
where x, y and z are the unknowns, while the other symbols represent
known quantities. Then, the value of x is given by the following equation:
Values of y and z can be similarly expressed. The value of the determinant
is calculated as follows:
This result is used in Chapter 4 to study non-competitive enzyme inhibitors.
