Getting Around
Metro
Best for… almost all daytime travel; there's an extensive network of conveniently
located stations.
The metro ( www.amel.gr ) runs every three to 10 minutes from 5.30am to just after mid-
night (to 2am Friday and Saturday).
Tickets (€1.40) must be validated at platform entrances and are valid for 90 minutes on all
modes of transport.
The three intersecting lines are: green (line 1, also known as the Ilektriko), red (line 2)
and blue (line 3).
All stations have wheelchair access.
Transport Maps
Metro maps are quite clear in the stations and onboard trains, but for getting further afield, pick up maps and
timetables at the EOT tourist office, the airport and train stations, Athens Urban Transport Organisation
(OASA;
185; www.oasa.gr ; Metsovou 15, Exarhia/Mouseio;
6.30am-11.30pm Mon-Fri, 7.30am-10.30pm
Sat & Sun) , or from its website.
Taxi
Best for… quick trips around town and night-time travel.
Despite the large number of yellow taxis, it can be tricky getting one, especially during
rush hour. Thrust your arm out vigorously.
