This resting place of many famous Greeks and philhellenes is a peaceful, quirky spot to
explore. Among the cemetery's famous residents is archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann
(1822-90), whose mausoleum is decorated with Trojan War scenes. Most of the tomb-
stones and mausoleums are lavish; some have works of art created by the foremost 19th-
century Greek sculptors, including Halepas'
