Byzantine Churches
Break from shopping and visit Sotira Lykodimou , built in 1031. It is the largest me-
dieval structure (and only octagonal Byzantine church) in Athens, and has served as
the Russian Orthodox Church since 1847. The 11th-century Agios Nikolaos
Rangavas was part of the palace of the Rangava family, which included Michael I,
emperor of Byzantium.
