Shopping Around Plaka
Plaka's lower reaches are jammed with small museums, slews of tavernas, and
kitsch souvenir stores, especially on main streets like Kydathineon and Adrianou.
Move away from the tourist strip for a glimpse of old Athens - virtually car-free
- in narrow lanes winding up the northeastern side of the Acropolis hill, and in
the maze of the Anafiotika quarter. A jaunt north to the Syntagma area will
bring you to Athens' hippest bar precinct.
