NEED TO KNOW
Opening Hours
Pubs and bars serving lunch usually open before midday, with swankier, lounge-
style operations waiting it out until 5pm. Most bars close sometime between
11pm and 2am, although some - mostly on the Granville Strip - stay open to
4am. Nightclubs usually open their doors at 9pm (although they don't really get
going until 11pm) and most stay open until 3am or 4am. Many close from Monday
to Wednesday.
How Much?
» Expect to pay $5 or $7 for a large glass of beer, but always ask if there are daily
specials.
» A glass of wine will set you back anything over $6, while cocktails also often
start at $6.
» Your bill will include an added 10% Provincial Sales Tax (PST), an extra that's
enough to drive anyone to drink.
» Expect to pay $5 to $20 for entry to many clubs, with weekends being the most
expensive time.
Tipping
Table servers expect around $1 per drink, or 15% when you're buying a round.
Even if you order and pick up your beverage at the bar, consider dropping your
change in the prominently placed tips glass.
