In-Depth Information
Internet Access
Most Vancouver hotels provide in-room wi-fi or high-speed cable internet services for
guests, but not always for free: check with your hotel when booking.
If you're toting your hardware around town and it's time to update your travel blog,
drop into one of the many branches of Blenz ( www.blenz.com ), Take 5
( www.take5cafe.com ) and Waves ( www.wavescoffee.com ) coffee shops for free wi-fi.
The Vancouver Public Library ( 604-331-3603; 350 W Georgia St; 10am-9pm
Mon-Thu, to 6pm Fri & Sat, noon-5pm Sun; Stadium-Chinatown) also has free wi-fi
and free-access internet-enabled computers: ask at the information desk for wi-fi guest
cards. Check www.wififreespot.com/can.html for other free hot spots across the region.
If you don't have your computer with you, check your email for free in the Apple Store
in downtown's Pacific Centre mall.
Medical Services
There are no reciprocal healthcare arrangements between Canada and other countries.
Non-Canadians usually pay cash up front for treatment, so taking out travel insurance
with a medical-cover component is strongly advised. Medical treatment in Canada is ex-
pensive: hospital beds can cost up to $2500 a day for nonresidents.
