( 800-909-4233, 250-381-4233; www.oceanriver.com ; 1824 Store St; rental per 2hr $40, tours
from $75; 9:30am-6pm Mon-Wed & Sat, to 8pm Thu & Fri, 10am-5pm Sun) One of the best
ways to see Victoria's antique skyline is from the glassy-calm water. You can do it
yourself with a kayak rental via these friendly folks, but an even better option is to go
on a guided tour (May to September). The Urban Kayak Tour introduces the busy har-
bor's balance of history, development and wildlife, but the twice-weekly sunset tours
are especially recommended.
You'll have a great time catching the city and shoreline illuminated under a gently
fading golden light and you'll likely catch a surprising amount of birdlife looking for
supper before turning in for the night.
