for Vancouverites, this branch of the region's winter playgrounds offers ski and snow-
boarding areas, plus toboggan and tubing courses. The snowshoe trails and tours are
also popular - check out the nighttime snowshoeing and chocolate fondue tour ($57).
You'll also find excellent mountain-biking trails through forested terrain.
This is usually the least crowded snowy destination in the region, so you're likely to
meet locals here. Seymour runs a winter-season shuttle bus from Lonsdale Quay ($6
each way).

10am-4pm Sun) The first stop for anyone looking to access the local bike scene. The
friendly folks here can take you on a guided tour or just rent you a bike and point you
in the right direction. Lessons are also available if you're a newbie and you want to
learn how to negotiate those gnarly tree roots without wiping out.
Beginners should consider the scenic tour (from $129), which includes bike, helmet
and a trundle into the wilderness for mountain-and-waterfront views.

Cove's sheltered waters, this is an ideal - and idyllic - spot for first-timers to try their
hand at paddling. Lessons and tours are available (the Full Moon Evening Explorer is
recommended), and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) has also been added to the mix -
try it out with a two-hour introductory class ($60).
For those with a little more experience, the center also sponsors Tuesday evening
race nights ( www.tuesdaynightracing.com ), where fun contests for all abilities are
staged. These evenings are a great way to hang out with North Shore boaty types.
