January
Vancouver's quietest month is usually cold, gray and dank weather-wise,
with occasional sparkling blue skies to keep the locals from getting too
miserable. Aside from the January 1 hangover cure, most happenings are
indoors.
Polar Bear Swim
This chilly New Year's Day affair has been taking place annually in English Bay since
1920. At around 2:30pm more than a thousand people charge into the ocean…and most
usually leap out shivering a few seconds later.
Dine Out Vancouver
From the second week of January, restaurants across the city offer 17 days of great-
value, three-course tasting menus for $18, $28 or $38. Book ahead at
www.dineoutvancouver.com - top spots always sell out.
PuSh International Performing Arts Festival
A three-week season of innovative theater, music, opera and dance from around the
world, or around the corner. Adventurous performance-art fans will love this unusual
showcase ( www.pushfestival.ca ) , staged at venues across the city from the third week of
January.
