EATING
The North Shore has plenty of dine-out options. You'll find a concentrated
cluster of eateries radiating up Lonsdale Ave from the waterfront, with
many more dotted around both North and West Van.

;
127 Lonsdale Ave, North Vancouver; mains $4-9; 7am-5:30pm
Mon-Sat; 230)
One of a string of German-heritage businesses on this Lonsdale
stretch, the Artisan Bake Shoppe has hearty, house-baked European-style breads that
are about as far from factory-made products as possible. Be sure to pick up some
pumpkin-seed bread (it'll keep you going all week) then indulge in some instant treats:
banana pecan cookies and the region's best pretzels are recommended. Soups and sand-
wiches are available.
If you still have room (or even if you don't) consider some eye-rollingly-good apple
strudel for the road.

; 1550 Philip Ave, North Vancouver; mains $8-16; 8am-9pm
Sun-Thu, to 10pm Fri & Sat; 240)
A colorful blast from North Van's pioneering past, the
family-run Tomahawk has been heaping its plates with comfort food since 1926. A
bustling weekend brunch spot - if the massive Yukon bacon and eggs grease-fest or the
frightening Skookum Chief burger don't kill your hangover, nothing will - it's also fun
for lunch or dinner, when bulging burgers and chicken potpies hit the menu.
Grab a spot at the counter on one of the swivel stools, and check out the surfeit of
First Nations artifacts lining the walls: it's like stuffing your face in a museum.
