EATING
Kitsilano's two main arteries - West 4th Ave and Broadway - offer a
healthy mix of eateries: it's well worth the trek here to lounge on a beach
or stroll the shopping areas then end your day with a rewarding meal. The
neighborhood's hippie past has left a legacy of vegetarian-friendly res-
taurants, but Kits' more recent wealth means there are also some top-
notch high-end options worth a splurge. Although UBC has a few places
to eat - including its ever-popular SUB building food court - we recom-
mend a quick bus hop to Kits for a far superior selection.
SERANO GREEK PASTRY
BAKERY $
OFFLINE MAP GOOGLE MAP
(3185 W Broadway; pastries $2-6; 9:30am-6pm Mon-Sat, noon-6pm Sun; 9) You'll find it
impossible to pass this fancy-free little Greek bakery; the aromas call to you like a siren
song. Step inside and the temptation increases exponentially. Naturally, the spanakopita
is fantastic, but this family-run joint is really all about traditional desserts: the cream-
filled korne makes the art of smiling and eating at the same times suddenly seem easy.
Try to make this your first call of the day if you're exploring Kits. Every local in the
area knows about this place and some treats quickly sell out on any given day.
TERA V BURGER VEGETARIAN $

( www.teravburger.com ; 2961 W Broadway; mains $6-9; 11:30am-8pm Mon-Wed,
11:30am-8:30pm Thu & Sun, 11:30am-9pm Fri & Sat; ; 9) Aiming to convert meat-eaters
into herbivores is the stated aim of this modern vegetarian burger bar. Which means
hearty, meat-esque dishes like veggie 'chicken' strips and grilled Tofurkey sandwiches.
The burgers are the way to go, especially the barbecue tempeh burger with yam fries.
Most dishes are available in vegan options and a fruit smoothie is the perfect accom-
paniment.
