coolers of beer may appear. Talk nicely to them with your novelty foreign accent and
they'll likely invite you over.
WEST 4TH AVENUE NEIGHBORHOOD
OFFLINE MAP GOOGLE MAP
( 4) This strollable smorgasbord of stores and restaurants may have your credit cards
whimpering for mercy after a couple of hours. Since Kits is now a bit of a middle-class
utopia, shops that once sold cheap groceries are now more likely to be hawking design-
er yoga gear, hundred-dollar hiking socks and exotic (and unfamiliar) fruits from
around the world.
There are also some excellent bookstores and coffeehouses here, as well as the ever-
present menagerie of well-maintained wooden heritage homes along almost every side
street. The neighborhood is definitely worth a lazy afternoon of anyone's time - and
you're never far from the beach if you need to cool off.
NEON STROLL
During your visit to the Museum of Vancouver ( Click here ) , ask about their cool
(and free) Visible City app . It allows you to stroll around Vancouver, point your
phone at buildings and see the neon signs that once existed on them. The app in-
cludes 57 signs around the city that recall a time when Vancouver was a twinkling
metropolis of winking adverts proclaiming everything from cinemas and drug
stores to restaurants and vaudeville theaters. At the time of writing, the app in-
cluded two neighborhoods - Granville St and the Hastings St area around China-
town - and users were able to view stills from the 1950s to the 1970s, along with
40 audio and video stories.
