TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALL GAME
If you can't get tickets to a Vancouver Canucks game, there's another option if
you want to scratch your itch for spectator sports. It's a tradition for many Van-
couverites to catch a summertime baseball game with the minor league Van-
couver Canadians OFFLINE MAP GOOGLE MAP ( www.canadiansbaseball.com ; Nat Bailey Stadium,
4601 Ontario St, Fairview; tickets $10-22; Jun-Sep; King Edward, then 33) . A farm-team
affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, it's a bargain $12.50 to catch a game at the
lovely, nostalgic Nat Baily Stadium - an idyllic, 1950s-built wooden stadium venue
(capacity around 5000), with adjoining Queen Elizabeth Park adding a verdant
side dish to the sunsets. Naturally, nosh is a big draw - especially if the action
flags a little - and, for many, that means sitting in the stands munching on an im-
pressive foot-long corn dog and gulping a few Granville Island Lagers. This being
Vancouver, sushi is also available. Adding to the fun are the nonbaseball
shenanigans, from kiss cams trained on the crowd to mascot races. And, several
times during the season, the nighttime action ends with a fun fireworks display.
Cathching a game here is arguably the most fun you can have at a spectator
sport in Vancouver - and it's also one of the most budget-friendly options (de-
pending on how many foot-long corn dogs you can put away).
