Vancouver's most Dutch) homestyle eatery. Nothing has changed at this family-run
joint in years: you'll still find faded photos of Netherlands' farm scenes and feel like
you're at your grandma's house. But the food - especially the perfect pannekoek (Dutch
pancake) - is comfort- grub defined. Tuesday has buy-one-get-one-half-price pancakes.

intimate restaurant is this charmingly classic French bistro. Slide into a candlelit ban-
quette for a leisurely three-course dinner of perfectly executed dishes and excellent ser-
vice. The menu changes to reflect the seasons but if mussels are available, snap 'em up.
Book ahead, especially on weekends, as there are just 30 seats.
There's no attempt to reinvent the wheel here: it's just an excellent little room that
does everything right. And that includes one of the city's best French-only wine lists,
with a dozen or so available by the glass.

Hidekazu Tojo's legendary skill with the sushi knife launched Vancouver's Japanese
dining scene and his sleek restaurant is still a pilgrimage spot for many. Among his ex-
quisite dishes are favorites such as lightly steamed monkfish, sautéed halibut cheeks
and fried red tuna wrapped with seaweed and served with plum sauce. A sophisticated
night out; book ahead for a seat at the omakaze sushi bar.
If Tojo is there on your visit, consider asking him about his Tojo tuna roll. Created to
introduce 1970s North American audiences to the pleasures of eating raw fish, local le-
gend says that his creation later became known as the California Roll. And the rest, of
