unanticipated treats for later in the day: potato knishs, chocolate babkas and deep-fried
potato latkas recommended.
With a deli cabinet filled with tubs of cream cheese and jars of pickles, this is a great
spot to create a picnic (there's a small park two blocks east). But if it's raining, stick
around for lunch: chicken matzo ball soup and a pastrami on rye sandwich is the way to
go. So you don't look like a tourist, copy the locals by ordering from the right-hand end
of the counter then paying at the left-hand end before picking up your order.

and you'll be transported to a world of curdy treats. But it's not just about looking: you
have two dining options here. Check out the fresh-made crusty sandwiches in the cab-

the dozens of available varieties before decamping to nearby Queen Elizabeth Park.
The available cheeses come from all over the world but there are always several tasty
BC varieties if you want to keep things local. Add a loaf of crusty bread or a box of
crackers - plus a jar of Turkish fig and walnut wine preserve from BC farm Vista D'oro
- and you'll be set for a tasty al fresco lunch.

Stephen King. Coffee is good while the light meals include fresh-made wraps and
chunky sandwiches plus servings of quiche or mac-and-cheese served with olives and
potato chips.
Warm and friendly (despite the animal-skull artworks on the whitewashed walls), it's
a local hipster haunt without the too-cool edge that some cafes have.
