The Biltmore is Main's favorite nightlife joint, but at time of research a
new venture - Fox Cabaret ( www.foxcabaret.com ) - was getting ready to
compete for the favors of local hipsters. Check ahead to see if it's open.

( www.biltmorecabaret.com ; 2755 Prince Edward St; 9) One of Vancouver's best alt venues,
the Biltmore is a firm favorite on the local indie scene. A low-ceilinged, good-vibe spot
to mosh to local and touring musicians, there are also regular event nights: check their
online calendar for upcoming happenings or hit the eclectic monthly Talent Time, Wed-
nesday's rave-like dance night or Sunday's ever-popular Kitty Nights burlesque show
( www.kittynights.com ) , which ends with a full-on DJ dance party.
If you want to socialize with the Main St locals in all their plaid-shirted glory, this is
the place to be (and not just at the wildly popular monthly Ping Pong Club). It's also a
great spot to meet area musos and swap record collection war stories.
ANZA CLUB MUSIC, CABARET

( www.anzaclub.org ; 3 W 8th Ave; 9) This wood-built community hall - which has the
aesthetics of a workers club without the edge - is popular with local cool kids as well
as old-school hippies who've been coming here for years. Staging an eclectic roster of
weekly events (many of them in the upstairs tiki lounge) there are also regular live
shows and DJ nights.
Check the calendar before you arrive and look out for highlights like open mikes,
bluegrass nights and the ever-popular Celluloid Social Club that lures local movie
makers and cinephiles from across the city.
