SCIENCE WORLD MUSEUM

( www.scienceworld.ca ; 1455 Quebec St; adult/child $22.50/15.25; 10am-5pm Mon-Fri,
10am-6pm Sat & Sun; ; Main St-Science World) Under Vancouver's favorite geodesic
dome (okay, its only one), the recently revamped science-and-nature showcase has ad-
ded tons of new exhibition space and a cool outdoor park crammed with hands-on fun
(yes, you can lift 2028kg). Inside, there are two floors of educational play from a walk-
in hamster wheel to an air-driven ball maze and, of course, a karilloscope.
Alongside the permanent galleries, there are ever-changing visiting exhibitions and
regular, entertaining demonstrations of scientific principles for those who like to watch
- the giant Omnimax Theatre takes that one step further. And if you fancy exploring
without the kids (you know you do) check out the regular adults-only After Dark
events, combining bar drinks and some live entertainment. These regular socials are
one of the city's cool nightlife secrets. And there's even a teen version if you need
something to entertain a sullen adolescent during your stay.
SOUTH FALSE CREEK SEAWALL WATERFRONT
OFFLINE MAP GOOGLE MAP
(cnr Quebec St & Terminal Ave; Main St-Science World) Starting a few steps from Science
World, this popular waterfront trail alongside False Creek's southern shoreline is about
3km long and takes you all the way to Granville Island. You'll pass the giant Olympic
Village , Habitat Island - a minisanctuary for passing birdlife - and the dockside
Stamps Landing area before reaching the back entrance to the island (it's actually a
peninsula).
Stay on Granville Island for lunch and, if you need to return to your point of origin,
pick up a miniferry for a relaxing False Creek 'cruise' back to Science World. It's a
cool way to enjoy the Vancouver skyline, framed by water and a mountain-fringed
backdrop.
