Serving the area's
well-read bohemians, this used (and occasionally new) bookstore is one of several liter-
ary nooks along the Drive. It's a mini-labyrinth of floor-to-ceiling stacks bulging with
titles, including some quirky staff picks near the entrance - sci-fi and fantasy nuts
should also check the ever-growing sections at the back of the store. Also a good spot
to buy your new Moleskin journal.
There's a well-curated literary travel section near the center of the stacks. And con-
sider picking up a Bukowski anthology or two: the infamous American author and poet
gave a few notorious live readings on the Drive back in the day.

If
you insist on eating something other than chocolate or ice cream, drop into this le-
gendary old-school deli, a family-run holdover from the days when this was Van-
couver's 'Little Italy.' Peruse the lip-smacking cheese and charcuterie selections then
check out the wall of marzipan, antipasti, olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Almost every-
thing here has been imported from the mother country.
A good spot to gather the makings of a mighty fine picnic - prosciutto and smoked
ricotta recommended - you can scoff the lot in nearby Grandview Park. But before you
leave the store, check out the ceiling: it's painted with clouds just like the Sistine
Chapel (but better).

The store where Vancouver hipsters come to add a little vintage glam to their look,
Mintage is a great spot for an afternoon of browsing. Some new lines add to the mix,
but it's mostly about uncovering that 1960s prom dress that will make you the envy of
your next retro cocktail house party. There are togs for both men and women here.
Don't miss the funky costume jewelry selection and check out the array of cleverly
reworked clothes that give new life to old, otherwise unfashionable pieces.
