claimed this typically basic Legion social club as their own, congregating outside to
smoke, then nipping back in for cheap beers and a chatty ambience. The old timers
seem to be happy that the place is still being used and the darts board hasn't seen so
much action in years; there's also free ping-pong and shuffleboard, plus Tuesday-night
Scrabble. The perfect spot for a budget-friendly night out.

Showing that not all the Drive's Italian cof-
fee shops are traditional old haunts, this bright, perky and relatively new corner spot is
a breath of fresh air. Overlooking Grandview Park, expect a jazzy soundtrack and tables
topped with little airplants - plus some excellent java made on a shiny machine that
looks like the sibling of a Vespa.
Check out the local artworks studding the walls and consider a food fuel-up: there
are cakes, treats and $8 made-to-order pannini sandwiches available. Cash only.

When Vancouv-
erites tell you the Drive is the city's best coffee street, this is one of the places they're
thinking about. It tops a healthy mug-full of cafes founded here by Italian immigrants.
Don't be put off by the chandeliers-and-statues decor (not everyone likes a side order of
statuesque genitalia with their drink): just order an espresso, sit outside and watch the
Drive slide by.
