sandwiches and steaks. The beer list offers some good BC craft brews - if there's a
Driftwood Farmhand or fat Tug IPA, snap it up.
On summer evenings, aim for a perch on the tiny porch and you can watch the
Drive's happy locals strutting by.

( www.havanarestaurant.ca ; 1212 Commercial Dr; mains $14-27; 5-10pm Mon-Thu, 10am-mid-
night Fri, Sat & Sun; 20) The granddaddy of Drive dining buzzes on summer evenings
when its patio - the area's largest - is animated with clamorous chatter. With a couple
of counterculture holdovers (check the graffiti-scratched walls inside and the back gal-
lery/theater combo), it's all about mojito pitchers and a comfort menu combining tacos,
'Cuban sandwiches' and jerk chicken wraps. Go for the jambalaya.
Expect to wait for a park-view patio perch on peak summer evenings. And if you get
one, hold onto it for dear life - or at least until the next round of drinks turns up.
REEF CARIBBEAN $$

( www.thereefrestaurant.com ; 1018 Commercial Dr; mains $10-19; 11am-10pm Mon-Fri,
10am-11pm Sat & Sun; 20) The funkily bright interior and Caribbean soul-food menu at
this cheery joint can almost chase away the city's rainy-day blues. Stomach-lagging
dishes like St Barts lamb shank and eye-poppingly spicy curries help, but don't ignore
the saltfish Jamaican patties, which will have you returning for more. Cocktails are also
a specialty (try the Dark & Stormy) and all are also available booze-free.
