While Gastown is increasingly gentrifying, it still has a few dive bars. The best of the
bunch is sticky-tabled Cambie. It's a local legend that most Vancouverites fondly recall
visiting at least once. Summer nights on the raucous patio are grungy fun, but perching
at a bench inside with a cheap drink special is a good way to have a blast without bust-
ing your budget.
The Cambie has one of the best priced pub-grub menus in town, with burgers, fish
and chips and the like all under $10 a pop.
CHILL WINSTON BAR

( www.chillwinston.ca ; 3 Alexander St; 11am-1am; 4) Gastown's best summertime patio
is the highlight of this large, brick-lined bar-restaurant. Snag a spot under a parasol and
you're unlikely to move much for the rest of the day. Drinkswise, you'll find flirty
cocktails plus a good boutique selection of beers from Quebec, Belgium, the UK and
beyond. There's also a large menu of tapas plates and larger mains if it's time to fuel
up.
