The city's Na-
tional Hockey League (NHL) team toyed with fans in 2011's Stanley Cup finals before
losing Game 7 to the Boston Bruins, triggering riots and looting across Vancouver. But
love runs deep and 'go Canucks go!' is still boomed out from a packed Rogers Arena at
every game. Book your seat early or just head to a local bar for some raucous game-
night atmosphere.
There's a large team merchandise shop at the stadium, which is open even when
there are no games on: it's a good spot to pick up cool souvenirs for sporting kids (and
adults) back home.

A 1940s heritage venue -
check out the retro neon figure perched on top of the streamlined exterior - the Vogue
was bought and refurbished a few years back. Happily the refurb didn't change much
and this is a great old-school venue to see bands. It's an all-seater, though, which some-
times means tension between those who want to sit and those of the mosh-pit persua-
sion.
The roster here is ecletic but it's usually a fave venue for visiting acts looking for a
good-sized venue: a recent Friday to Sunday line-up included Billy Bragg, Nick Cave
and Prince.

Vancouver's dance headquarters, this cleverly
reinvented old bank building offers a kaleidoscopic array of activities that arguably
makes it Canada's foremost dance center. Home to resident companies - Ballet BC is
based here - it also hosts classes, workshops, performances and events throughout the
year: check the website calendar to see what's coming up.
