DRINKING & NIGHTLIFE
The Granville Strip between Robson and Granville Bridge is lined with
popular bars, where partying is the main attraction. A short walk away,
you'll find more discerning options in the bustling West End, which has
plenty of pubs and bars, including several gay-friendly haunts along
Davie St.

( www.therailwayclub.com ; 579 Dunsmuir St; 4pm-2am Mon-Thu, noon-3am Fri, 3pm-3am Sat,
5pm-midnight Sun; Granville) A local-legend, pub-style music venue, the upstairs 'Rail'
is accessed via an unobtrusive wooden door next to a 7-Eleven. Don't be put off: this is
one of the city's friendliest bars. You'll fit right in as soon as you roll up to the bar -
unusually for Vancouver, there's no table service. The Rail has live music nightly.
Expect regional microbrews from the likes of Tree Brewing and Central City (go for
its ESB) and hit the hole-in-the-wall kitchen for late-night nosh, including burgers and
quesadillas. Arrive early enough and you might snag the corner window table overlook-
ing the streets. Don't forget your hot nuts - from the vending machine by the bar.

Downtown's best wine bar, this little nook combines a heritage mosaic floor and
swanky white vinyl chairs that add a dash of mod class. But despite the cool appear-
ances, there's a snob-free approach that will have you happily taste-tripping through
Old and New World delights, as well as some exciting BC wines: go for the citrusy Joie
riesling. Add a cheese and charcuterie tasting plate.
