EATING
Downtown
You can't throw a Tim Hortons donut in the city center without hitting a restaurant.
While there are plenty of midrange options and a smattering of celebrity-fave high-end
locations radiating from Robson St, there are also rewarding ethnic eateries and quirky
backstreet joints hidden slightly off the beaten path. Try either end of Robson for
Japanese and Korean diners or the Granville Strip for brunch-serving bars.

For a coveted seat at one of the dinged old tables, arrive off-peak at this sunny corner
cafe that has a 'granny-chic' look combining creaky wooden floors and junk-shop bric-
a-brac. You'll be joining in-the-know hipsters and creative types who've been calling
this their local for years. They come for the well-priced breakfasts (egg and soldiers
$2.95) plus freshly prepared gourmet baguette sandwiches and house-made soups.
This quirky little hangout is a great spot for an afternoon cake and coffee, but be pre-
pared to wait for a perch to call your own.
