The pathogen is widespread and affects many other
economically important crops including pineapple,
strawberry, citrus, tomato and tobacco.
Importance
The disease can cause extensive defoliation and serious
fruit losses following heavy storms or prolonged wet
weather. The golden passionfruit used as a rootstock to
combat Fusarium wilt is also resistant to Phytophthora.
The pathogen can completely rot the roots and base of the
vine in susceptible rootstocks.
