Importance
This disease has not been found in drier areas. It is
potentially important in young trees.
Management
Remove galls and treat wounded areas with registered
fungicides in young trees. Fungicide application for
mature trees is generally not warranted.
QUICK AND SLOW TREE DECLINE
Cause
Several fungal species: Xylaria arbuscula, Nectria rugulosa,
Phellinus gilvus, Acremonium recifei .
Symptoms
Initial symptoms are yellowing and browning of some
leaves in the canopy. Trees may die few months after the
appearance of initial foliage symptoms.
Source of infection and spread
The disease is spread through fungal structures and enters
through wounds and roots. The associated fungi are
common on decaying woods.
Importance
The disease kills trees.

Management
Follow tree health programs (such as applying organic
matter).
