sky blue and lilac look. The friendly owner, Hsiao Chiang, has an encyclopaedic know-
ledge of the island and can show you his family's underground houses just 200m south of
the homestay.

NT$1800; ) This fancy guesthouse is especially popular among Taiwanese and
other Asian travellers. There are five beautifully renovated rooms, three of them boasting
ocean views. Kitchen use is possible with advance notice. Rooms can be booked solid
even on weekdays so reserve well in advance.
Blue Ocean House CABIN $$$

NT$3600; ) The Blue Ocean dive shop and restaurant has added some new wooden
cabins just across the road. Rooms are spacious and the open porches are made for
chilling out in the ocean breeze. Good snorkelling and diving packages are available if
you have four people or more (from NT$2350 per person).
Eating & Drinking
The Tao diet consists primarily of fish and locally grown vegetables, with a bit of pork
and goat on special occasions. In addition to enjoying homestay meals you can eat and
drink at a growing number of restaurants and cafes on both sides of the island.

island.
