Spring Scream MUSIC
( www.springscream.com ) Indie-music fans should definitely try to time their Taiwan visit
for April when Spring Scream takes over Kenting. The country's longest-running music
festival, this multistaged event brings together names big and small in Taiwan's indie-
music scene, along with some imported bands. It's currently held in Eluanbi.
Sleeping
Summer (approximately May to September), Chinese New Year and other public holi-
days are considered the high season. Discounts of 40% or more for midrange and top-end
hotels are standard on weekdays and during the low season.
KENTING VILLAGE
Kenting Village has the lion's share of hotels along the main strip (usually charging less
than NT$1000 on low-season weekdays) but this street is a noisy, charmless place to
stay.
Kenting Youth Hostel HOSTEL $

) This backpacker hostel is nothing to write home about but the beds and the bath-
rooms are reasonably clean. All rooms are windowless but there are ACs. It's the
cheapest yet decent option in the park, so it fills up quickly, especially on weekends. The
hostel is next to KFC.
Tz Shin Resort Hotel HOTEL $$$

Dawan St has a row of stylish three-storey B&Bs all facing onto the car park and the
beach. To reach this street, turn right just past McDonald's as you enter Kenting Village.
At Tz Shin, rooms are spiffy and feature large beds and big windows. Low-season mid-
week prices for a single traveller can go down to NT$850.
