convenient one for travellers is right in the train station. Staff speak English and can
provide maps of the city and greater Tainan.
Getting There & Away
BUS
Ho-Hsin Bus Company MAP GOOGLE MAP ( www.ebus.com.tw ; 23 Beimen Rd) This com-
pany takes you to Taipei (small/large seat NT$400/600, five to six hours, every 30
minutes), as do other bus companies nearby.
HIGH SPEED RAIL
The HSR station is a 30- to 40-minute drive or bus ride south of the city centre. Trains to
Taipei (NT$1350, two hours) leave every half-hour.
TRAIN
Tainan is a major stop on the Western Line with fast/slow trains to Taipei (NT$738/569,
four/5½ hours) and Kaohsiung (NT$106/82, 30 minutes/one hour).
Getting Around
TO/FROM THE AIRPORT & HIGH SPEED RAIL
Bus 5 connects the airport with City Bus North Station (NT$18, 20 minutes). HSR
shuttle buses connect HSR station with City Bus North Station (free, 40 minutes, every
20 minutes).
BUS
City Bus
The City Bus ( http://ebus.tncg.gov.tw ) covers most of the city. Basic fares are NT$18,
and buses run every 30 to 60 minutes. The hub across from the train station is divided in-
to City Bus North Station MAP GOOGLE MAP and City Bus South Station MAP
GOOGLE MAP . Most city buses stop at both stations, as do the tourist buses.
Tourist Bus
Tour bus 88 runs daily (NT$18, every 30 minutes from 9am to 6pm) to all major historic
sites. Tour bus 99 runs to Sihcao Dazhong Temple, in Taijiang National Park, or Taiwan
