In-Depth Information
The trail to Hehuanshan East Peak (Héhuān Shān Dōngfēng; elevation 3421m) starts
next to the Ski Villa. It's a two- to three-hour return hike to the top.
The marked trailhead to Hehuanshan North Peak (Héhuān Shān Běifēng; elevation
3422m) starts at 200m north of Taroko National Park Hehuanshan Station at Km37. It's a
three- to four-hour return hike.
The trailhead for Shimenshan (Shímén Shān; elevation 3237m) is just north of the
former Hehuan Cabin on the east (left) side of the road. It's a short walk to the top.
People often come here to watch the sunrise.
The paved path up to Hehuanshan Main Peak (Héhuān Shān Zhǔfēng; elevation
3417m) starts at the 30.5km mark (just before Wuling) and is about a two-hour return
hike.
The trail up to Hehuan Jian Shan (Héhuānjiān Shān; elevation 3217m) starts just be-
hind the former Hehuan Cabin. It takes about 15 minutes to reach the top.

Sleeping & Eating
Camping is possible in the parking lot at the information centre.
The restaurant in Song Syue Lodge is the only place to eat on the mountain.
Ski Villa HOTEL $$$

NT$2440) You can stay overnight in the Ski Villa, found down the lower lane from a toi-
let block opposite the former Hehuan Cabin. The upper lane leads to the overpriced Song
Syue Lodge.
Getting There & Away
The Fengyuan Bus Company ( 2222 3454) runs one bus daily to Hehuanshan from
Taichung (NT$464, four hours, 8.50am). If you want to continue north from Hehuan-
shan, catch the next day's Fengyuan bus as it passes Hehuanshan heading to Lishan. The
bus arrives in Lishan at around 2.30pm, where you can connect to a bus at 4pm to Wul-
ing Forest Recreation Area, and the next day continue by bus down to Ilan or Taroko
Gorge.
