Nenggao-Andongjun
HIKING
An epic six-day hike across the spine of Taiwan, the Nenggao-Andongjun (Néng-
gāo-Āndōngjūn) hike is for the very fit and experienced only. The first day's hike fol-
lows the same route as the others to Tienchi but after that veers south to cross a rugged,
high-mountain landscape of deep-set lakes, rolling meadows of dwarf bamboo, deep-cut
valleys and endless dark ranges. There is great beauty here and deeper solitude. The last
day's hike down the Aowanda River ends in the Aowanda National Forest Recreation
Area.
Be prepared to carry your own supplies, including a tent, for the whole trip. A guide
who knows the route is an absolute necessity; contact Taiwan Adventures (
