In-Depth Information
The park organises hikes to Yushan Main Peak twice monthly from October to Decem-
ber. Call for reservations.
Sleeping & Eating
On the trail, cabin quality varies. Paiyun Lodge below the summit of Yushan has bunk
bedding, flush toilets, running water, solar lighting and a cafeteria.
Other cabins around the park are usually sturdy A-frames, with open floors for crash-
ing out on (some have a nice thick, black underpadding), a loft for extra bedding, solar
lights, a water source and ecotoilets. Some cabins also have clear space around them for
camping and a deck for cooking and lounging.
You can book meals at Paiyun Lodge (breakfast NT$150, lunch NT$300, dinner
NT$300). This gives you access to a multicourse buffet prepared by Bunun porters. In
the morning you get rice porridge and hot water.
Other cabins are unmanned, so you must bring your own supplies.
Shang Dung-pu Hostel HOSTEL $
(Dōngpǔ Shānzhuāng; 049-270 2213; dm NT$300) The only place to stay in the park if
you're not on a trail is this hostel at Tatajia. The rustic old wooden building has simple
bunk dorm beds, showers and toilets. Simple meals can be arranged if you give advance
notice, but you can buy instant noodles and snacks at the front desk. Book ahead if you
want to stay here.
