There are flights from Taitung's Fong Nian Airport ( www.tta.gov.tw ) to Kaohsiung,
Taichung, Lanyu and Green Islands with Daily Air Corporation ( www.dailyair.com.tw ) . Uni
Air ( www.uniair.com.tw ) has flights to Taipei.
BUS
The East Coast Line of the Tourism Shuttle Bus ( www.taiwantrip.com.tw ) has six daily
buses from the train station to Fugang Harbour (for boats to Green Island and Lanyu),
Xiao Yeliu, Shanyuan Beach, Dulan, Jinzun, Donghe and Sanxiantai. There is also a line
to Luye. See the website for schedules.
There are a few daily buses to Kaohsiung and two daily to Hualien, but they are
slower and more expensive than the train. There are no buses to Kenting.

Hualien (fast/slow train NT$345/266, 2½/3½ hours, hourly)
Kaohsiung (fast/slow train NT$362/279, 2½/3½ hours, hourly).
Getting Around
TO/FROM THE AIRPORT
Taxis are plentiful, or take the Tourism Shuttle Bus ( www.taiwantrip.com.tw ) , which run
six times daily (NT$23, 15 minutes) at 6.52am, 8.22am, 9.52am, 11.52am, 1.22pm and
2.52pm.
CAR & SCOOTER
You can rent cars and scooters from both the train station and airport; however, you must
have a local Taiwanese licence to rent a scooter. For a car, bring an International Driver's
Permit.
TOP OF CHAPTER
South of Taitung
South of Taitung there are a few interesting little stops where you can enjoy bathing in
hot springs, beachcombing and a fascinating banyan forest.
Cyclists can continue riding south (Hwy 11 is a nicer ride out of Taitung than the 9) to
connect with the 199 to Kenting, but be aware that the cycling shoulder lane ends past
Chihpen. Many find sharing the twisting and rising road with speeding trucks more of a
