Wuling Villa
HOSTEL $
(Wuling Mountain Hostel, Wǔlíng Shānzhuāng; 2590 1020; dm weekday/weekend NT$700/900)
Despite the name, this is the hostel in the Wuling area. Normal rooms here have simple
wooden interiors with a minimum of furniture and are grossly overpriced on weekends
(doubles go from NT$4000). For dorm rooms ask for a
tongpu
(room with floor mat and
thick quilt). Breakfast (congee and salty eggs) is included and lunch/dinner costs
NT$150/350.
Campground
CAMPGROUND $
(Lùyíng Guǎnlǐ Zhōngxīn; 2590 1470; sites NT$400-1000, cabins NT$1800-2200)
Set high on a
gorgeous alpine meadow, this campground offers clean, modern facilities (including
showers and a convenience store) with grass sites, platform sites and even platforms with
pre-set army-style tents. Sites come both unpowered and powered; for the ultimate com-
fort try the little wooden cabins (without private bath).
Wuling National Hostel

A com-
fortable place to stay with forest views all around, the hostel (really a midrange hotel) of-
fers good-value rooms that include buffet-style breakfast and dinner. Meals (breakfast
NT$150, set lunch NT$250 to NT$290, dinner NT$350) are also available for nonguests.
There's wi-fi in the hotel lobby.
Getting There & Away
each day from Ilan (NT$337, three hours, 7.30am and 12.40pm). Take the train station
back exit and look for the bus stand by a Hi-Life convenience store. The return bus from
Wuling leaves at 9.20am and 2.10pm.
There are also buses to Taichung (one daily at 8am) and Hualien (one daily at 1pm)
via Lishan. Buses to Lishan leave Wuling Farm at 10.30am and 3.40pm and take about
1½ hours.
You can also rent scooters in Jiaoxi and drive up to Wuling Farm.
