U-Theatre LIVE PERFORMANCE
MAP GOOGLE MAP
(Yōu Jùchǎng; www.utheatre.org.tw ) One of Taiwan's most mesmerising performance groups,
U-Theatre combines traditional drumming and music with dance inspired by Taoism,
meditation and martial arts. As their website states, 'The U-people believe that the com-
bination of Tao and skill is the goal of their life and artistic creation'.
U-Theatre's unique outdoor nighttime shows are sometimes held in a natural amphi-
theatre in Maokong. Check the website for the schedule.
Zhinan Temple TEMPLE
MAP GOOGLE MAP
(Zhǐnán Gōng) The serene and stately Zhinan Temple sits high above Wenshan District in a
near feng shui-perfect perch: two rivers converge in the valley below, while lush wooded
hills flank its rear halls. First built in 1891, the temple is dedicated to Lu Tung Pin, one
of the eight immortals of classic Chinese mythology.
Eleven shrines and three large temples comprise the entire complex. In the far right
temple, dedicated to the Sakyamuni Buddha, look for a central Thai-style black Buddha.
