TAIPEI FOR CHILDREN
Taipei is probably not on the bucket list for many children, but families will find
there is a lot to keep young ones entertained, and certainly well fed. Night markets,
in particular, are a favourite with kids, offering endless fried stuff, sugary drinks and
downright weird items to sample.
Active families will love the easy access to hikes and cycling routes. Water activ-
ity fans should check out the pedal boats at Bitan, the natural river pools at Wulai
( Click here ), the open hot-spring complex at Tienlai ( Click here ) , and in summer
the water parks at the Museum of Drinking Water ( Click here ) and Formosa Fun
Coast ( www.formosafuncoast.com.tw ; adult/child NT$650/550; 9am-5pm Jun & Sep, to 9pm Jul &
Aug) . Also in summer look for the Taipei Children's Art Festival ( Click here ) and the
Yi-lan International Children's Folklore & Folkgame Festival ( www.yicfff.tw/2013/en ;
adult/child NT$600/300) in nearby Yilan County. The Ferris wheel at Miramar Enter-
tainment Park ( www.miramar.com.tw ; tickets NT$200;
11am-11pm; m Jiannan Rd) is just
across from Jiannan Rd MRT.
The rules for when children get discount tickets vary. Sometimes it is based on
height (which also varies from 90cm to 150cm) and sometimes age (under 12).
