In-Depth Information
most rides at Disney, and the same can be said for The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man,
The Simpsons and Transformers: The Ride . Even an attraction like Twister manages to feel
more intense than most things run by the mouse. Although there are some attractions for
thesmallermembersofthefamilysuchas Barney ,thesearefewandfarbetweenatUniver-
sal Orlando.
Less strollers - This is another minor consideration, but the fact that more visitors to the
park are adults means that one advantage is that you do not have to swim through a sea
of strollers or pushchairs to get to your favorite attraction. Strollers and small children are
well accepted throughout the parks but there are simply less of them.
Dining - Food at Universal Orlando is generally cheaper than at Walt Disney World. There
is nowhere near as much variety at Universal as there is at Disney though; you will pretty
much have to stick to standard theme park food. The biggest difference in our opinion
however is the quality and taste; whilst food at the Disney parks is not gourmet by any
standard in general it is much, much better than Universal Orlando's offerings.
Water Rides - You have ridden S plash Mountain at the Magic Kingdom in Disney World
and you came out a little bit wet, having received a big of a spray to the face. This is noth-
ing! Go on a water ride at Universal and you will not be coming out having been sprayed
or splashed, you will come out drenched. Universal really does like to get you wet on these
rides, and Universal's Islands of Adventure is the perfect place to do this with three major
water attractions.
Resort transportation - We touched on this briefly before but due to the size of Disney's
property there are various ways of getting to and from the theme parks to your hotel, all
depending on where it is located. There are ferryboats, buses and monorails and journey
times to the theme parks can be a few minutes to 25 minutes or more, but you may also
require several transfers for certain trips. You can also walk between some limited areas of
the Walt Disney World resort. Everyone can use the resort transportation for free.
Universal Orlando also allows everyone to use its resort transportation for free, which is
made up of a fleet of ferryboats, which take you to and from the parks, CityWalk and the
deluxe on-site hotels. The ferryboat journey should not take more than 10 minutes, or you
can simply walk to the theme parks from all the on-site hotels (deluxe or not). You can
walk across the entire resort at Universal Orlando; this is impossible to do at Disney, as
they do not provide the means to do this with many areas not allowing pedestrian traffic.
There are also complimentary shuttle buses available from all the on-site hotels to the parks
at Universal Orlando.
