100 healthy
volunteer subjects, ranging in age from
20 to 50 years. Each circle repre-
sents an MP concentration of a subject's retina, as determined by the Raman
intensity of the MP carotenoid response. As seen in Fig. 12.12, the MP con-
centration can vary strongly between subjects at any age. Low MP levels of
subjects are likely to correlate with their risk for vision problems later in life.
