co-crystallization still is a concern in fast
TREF separations using fast cooling rates.
In our study reported below, we have
managed to reduce the co-crystallization
effect in TREF by using glass bead packing
instead of polymeric di-vinyl benzene
(DVB) packing. Reasonable control of
the co-crystallization effect has been made
possible even at fast TREF analyses at the
rate of three to four hours per sample. The
results of this study are explained in
Figure 11 and 12 for the DVB and glass
bead TREF columns, respectively. (The
glass beads GL-0191 of 18-27 microns were
purchased from MO-SCI Specialty Pro-
ducts, LLD, 4000 Enterprise Dr., Rolla,
