GPC and TREF in a complementary way to
analyze polyolefins for greatly improving the
understanding of their complex structures.
One way to explain the complex multi-
ple-site nature of polyolefin structures is to
visualize it in a three-dimensional picture,
as shown in Figure 2. In this illustrative
model of a ZN-LLDPE sample, we can
explain the structural features seen by GPC
versus those seen by TREF. When viewing
the graph in the GPC direction (bottom left
frame), one sees the result of the over-
lapping MWD profiles of the multiple sites
that are stacked together with one behind
