Conservation
A vast and complex wilderness, the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem is home to a broad
range of species that also includes humans. For the last century, our intervention has had
positive and negative effects on conservation and wildlife. How to both preserve and inhab-
it this region remains of critical importance, even today.
Issues affecting the national parks are diverse and evolving. While preserving native spe-
cies and their habitats is a priority, there is also the question of invasive species, which
could look like anything from the New Zealand mud snail obstructing waterways to a
snowmobile roaring through winter landscapes. Understanding these issues and managing
them are an eternal process.
