In-Depth Information
West Yellowstone is the regional hub for snowmobiling, as well as a launch pad for
snowcoach tours into the park. Most locals battled the National Park Service's proposed
ban on snowmobiling in Yellowstone National Park, and some are still not happy with the
limits imposed. Outside the park, unrestricted snowmobiling continues and is big winter
business.
'West' bustles with park traffic in the high seasons (June to September and mid-Decem-
ber to mid-March) but even then the surrounding wilderness remains lightly used. Ride a
bike, paddle a canoe, fly-fish or click on skis - even at the height of tourist season, you
can have the waterways, lakes and trails mostly to yourself.
